What Are Service Areas?
Development Groups - defined by local authority or sports partnership boundaries depending on their geographical location.
Purpose
Each Service Area is managed by a steering group at which all Rugby League agencies in the area and other appropriate partners are represented. The group will normally elect its co-ordinator and will manage designated Rugby League activity.
In some cases, the Service Area Coordinator may be employed full time by the Local Authority. Action Groups are sub groups of the Service Area, which deal with specific issued such as the development of Women & Girls Rugby League. Each member of the steering group will report back to their action group.

ST HELENS Service Area coaching is now up and running until the end of July.
Under 11s to 14s training groups will experience the fine training facilities at Cowley International Language College and take part in sessions aimed at improving them as junior players.
Community Rugby League coaches at St Helens RFC will lead the sessions which include warm ups, ball skills, agility, attacking and defending.
Steve Leonard, St Helens Service Area Co-ordinator, said: “As ever we have the best coaches working with the young players who will be with us for 14 early evening sessions.
“The St Helens Service Area has been in place long enough now for youngsters to see it’s a successful pathway. You only have to look at the success rate of the last phase in promoting players onto Scholarships and the Regional Development squads to see how the pathway is bearing fruit. It has never been so clearly in evidence as this year.
"Again it is not only at these age groups, we have players at all ages progressing onto professional contracts and in representing England in both RFL and BARLA squads.
“The sessions will be a step up from much of their training so far, but the vibrant and energetic learning environment really brings out the best in the youngsters. We are aware this is the first step on the player pathway, but all the lads are also aware it’s a long road ahead.
“Players have been put forward to us by coaches at community clubs and we hope that they can develop as players and go back to their clubs more equipped to succeed in their junior careers.”
"Special praise goes to the Coaches from both the Community Clubs and from Saints who themselves are progressing on the Coaching Pathway - they too will be looking at progressing into Scholarship Coaching/Academy Coaching in the coming months and years."
"Lastly great credit goes to the Community Clubs who have bought into the Pathway and its importance to our game's strategy.”
